What is Qxw?
Qxw is a program by Mark Owen that can help you create and publish crosswords. It was written for Linux, but it compiles straight out of the box for Windows too. On this page, you can download a Windows binary and (hopefully, with a bit of luck and a following wind) run Qxw on your Windows machine.
What does it look like?

How can I run it?
- Download and install GTK+, if you haven't already. You can obtain a 32-bit Windows version of GTK+ from http://gtk-win.sourceforge.net/home/index.php/Downloads. Download and run the GTK+ Runtime installer. You will not be able to use Qxw without this installed.
- Download Qxw for Windows here (ZIP archive).
- Download a dictionary such as The UK Advanced Cryptics Dictionary. The file ukacd17.txt should be put in the same place where you put qxw.exe.
Although Qxw is well-tested software, this Windows port is untested. If it doesn't work, please let me know.
Who did this?
Qxw was written by Mark Owen. My name's Graeme Jefferis, but all I did was download his source code and build it with GTK. Nothing else was required.
Anything else?
Yes. Mark has made Qxw available under the terms of the GNU General Public License, version 2. As a requirement of my redistribution of his program in executable form, I must make available the source code itself. It is here (gzipped tar archive.) You don't need this to use Qxw on Windows.
